Biography
Dr. Ian S. Soriano, MD is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of Robotic Surgery, UCSF Department of Surgery. He is the Interim Executive Medical Director of Adult Surgical Services and Co-Director of the Clinical Performance Improvement Committee for UCSF Health. His clinical specialties include general, gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Soriano completed a combined undergrad and medical school program at the University of the Philippines. He trained in general surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia followed by a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Florida. Prior to joining UCSF, he was a highly respected and clinically busy academic surgeon in Philadelphia for over 15 years, most recently as Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital, as well as Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was awarded Honorary Fellow of both the Philippine College of Surgeons and Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons. He is on the editorial board of multiple surgical journals and leads multiple committees in leading surgical societies.
